Steamboat Springs, a famous ski resort, is less than 1 hours from the Freeman Ranch. Northwestern Colorado is home to over 50 of the elk herds in the state. The hunting for both elk and mule deer is excellent on this ranch, Several mule deer bucks have been viewed on each visit I have made to the ranch as you will see in the photos recently taken at the property. The quality of the trophy bucks is outstanding, Resident elk reside on the ranch with even larger numbers moving to the Freeman Ranch in the fall when hunting pressure moves them to the property from the Routt National Forest-only a couple of miles from the boundary of the property. There are several springs and ponds on the ranch. Grazing for cattle has not been done on the ranch for several years, providing rich forage for the wildlife. Cottonwood Creek, a seasonal stream, traverses the property with huge mature Cottonwood trees along the banks offering refuge for wildlife. There are also several strains of Aspen trees on the property, along with oakbrush and sagebrush to provide food and cover for wildlife. You just won't believe the amazing array of wildlife here, If you are an angler there are several reservoirs in the area with the Freeman Reservoir only 1 1/2miles from the property, The hunting unit for elk is over the counter for two of the four rifle seasons.
