Upper Michigan Wooded Recreational Parcel for Sale! This 64+/-Acre parcel is located in northeastern Baraga County in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The northern border of the property is adjacent to thousands of acres of Copper Country State Forest Lands, and there is access to National Forest, as well as corporate CFA Lands minutes away. Here you can enjoy walk-in access for hunting, trapping, and fishing. Bear, Deer, Ruffed Grouse, and Small Game abound here. The Baraga Plains Wildlife Area is in the immediate area, and it is part of 142,900 acres of State owned land. This is an area of heavy lake effect snowfall from Lake Superior. The management unit supervises a 988 mile snowmobile trail network. Access to Trail No. 15 is nearby. All of this system is groomed and maintained under eight grants to local snowmobile clubs or chambers of commerce. There is one ORV trail on the Baraga plains, and several ORV routes on railroad grades. The predominant timber cover type in the area is northern hardwood. This type (Sugar maple, red maple, Yellow birch, basswood, white ash, red oak) is managed with an individual tree selection cut. Minor types are aspen, upland spruce fir, and swamp conifers. There is a 5,000 acre area of jack pine just south of the parcel, in the Baraga Plains. Jack pine clear cuts and subsequent regeneration have resulted in large areas of young jack pine. These are attractive to Kirtland warblers, and they have frequently nested here. The State carefully manages these forest lands with 20 year cutting cycles.
