Ranch Description
Collins Ranch is a 3,492 acre working cattle ranch in Garfield County, Montana with a shop, corrals and electricity. The property is made up of good native rangeland with 207 acres of tillable farm ground and 307 acres of expired Crp. Strategically placed stock tanks and reservoirs provide ample water to each pasture. High protein grasses make this a good cattle production opportunity.
Land
The ranch is 3,492 total contiguous acres of rolling hills. The majority is good native rangeland. Around 207 acres are tillable farming. The 307 acres of expired CRP are primarily crested wheat grass. Grass-filled dikes are watered on good years by reservoir overflow and have the potential to be hayed. There are three good reservoirs and another that's washed out, but could be restored.
Improvements
The ranch is fenced and cross-fenced, and has electricity, a set of corrals, an electric well that pipes water to four stock tanks and two solar wells with stock tanks. There is also a permit for an additional well. A 36 foot by 24 foot shop with a sloped roof and dirt floor sits in the yard of an old homestead where there is a shelter belt made up of Elm trees and Caraganas.
Recreation
Located in game management district 701, the area is known for abundant Mule deer, Pronghorn antelope, and the occasional White Tail deer with some of the nation's best elk hunting within 60 miles of the ranch. For the predator hunter, the ranch has plenty of coyotes and a variety of small game animals. There are 1600 miles of shoreline around Fort Peck Lake, which is about 50 miles away. The lake is known for its boating and fishing with trophy walleye, northern pike, bass and catfish. An easy commute from the ranch gets you to one million acres of public land access.
Agriculture
Collins Ranch is owner rated at 110 to 135 cows depending on the year. Hay production has historically been around 200 to 225 ton a year. There is potential for more of the property to be farmed.

General Operations
Currently the ranch is set up efficiently for cattle grazing and is fenced and cross-fenced into several pastures, all efficiently watered. There is also a set of corrals on the property.

History
Garfield County is known for its famous dinosaur bone discoveries and their notable T-Rex specimens. The Missouri Breaks are a highlight of the area with deep canyons, the Missouri River, Fork Peck Reservoir, the CM Russell National Wildlife Refuge, and the UL Bend National Wildlife Refuge. This region of Montana was the end of the trail for historic cattle drives from Texas north to the seas of grass in Montana territory as recounted in numerous history books about the region.

The ranch is situated about 20 miles Northeast of Cohagen, MT, and 30 miles Southeast of Jordan, MT. Jordan has a grocery store, gas stations, schools, churches, a farm store, repair shops, museums and restaurants. Garfield County, Montana has one of the country's lowest population densities. The ranch is within an hour and a half of historic Miles City, Montana's eastern business hub, and three hours and fifteen minutes from Billings, Montana, Montana's largest city.
