History Originally, the Sitting Bull burial location was in the northern part of the Standing Rock Indian Reservation, near Fort Yates, North Dakota. In 1953, Sitting Bull's descendants and others relocated the great chief's remains to its current site near Mobridge, SD. That same year, a bust created by famed sculptor, Korczak Ziolkowski, was erected to commemorate the gravesite. Sitting Bull's Monument currently rests atop a nine-foot pillar of granite and is open to the public to view and memorialize this historical leader. In 2005, the site was purchased by the Sitting Bull Monument Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and preserving this historical site, as well as promoting Sitting Bull's life and accomplishments. The sale will include all rights and ownership of the foundation and is subject to approval of the foundation board.AREA Amenities Along with its rich heritage, this 40-acre property boasts rolling hills, lush grasslands and easy access with surrounding scenic views.
