Ranch Description
The Deer Haven Ranch is a remarkable property consisting of 7,600 +/- deeded acres, 560 +/- state of Wyoming lease acres, and 440 +/- Bureau of Land Management lease acres for a total of 8,360 +/- contiguous acres. The ranch is located west of Hawk Springs, Wyoming and southeast of Wheatland, Wyoming on the Platte / Goshen county line with approximately 200 acres lying in Platte County. Located along the Goshen Rim, this ranch represents some of the best cow/calf and recreation country Wyoming has to offer with steep, rugged canyons; scenic pine, cedar, and juniper tree-covered ridges; gently sloping summer and winter pastures; and hay meadows. Approximately 1,800 +/- acres lie on top of the rim are in CRP. Boxelder Creek is a spring-fed creek that originates on the property and builds volume from multiple springs as it flows down the canyon, past the improvements, which lie at the mouth of the canyon. The creek bottom is lined with deciduous trees of multiple varieties creating a riparian habitat for trophy mule deer, antelope, elk, upland birds, turkeys and numerous other wildlife species. The Deer Haven Ranch has a set of improvements consisting of a single story ranch house of approximately 1,104 square feet originally constructed in 1918 and then added on to and renovated. This property is teeming with white tail deer, mule deer, antelope, as well as upland birds and waterfowl. The Deer Haven Ranch is located in elk hunt area 3 and deer hunt area 15. The Springer/Bump Sullivan Wildlife Habitat Wildlife area covers about 3000 acres and the public has non-motorized access year-round with a focus on geese, ducks, and pheasant hunting. That area is considered to be one of the best goose and pheasant hunting areas in Wyoming. This area is immediately north of the Dunn Reservoir Ranch. The Hawk Springs State Recreation Area is immediately south of the property and Hawk Springs Reservoir is a major destination for boating, waterskiing, and fishing for walleye, large mouth bass, perch, and channel catfish.
