Ranch Description

Michigan Trophy Whitetail Deer Ranch for Sale! This High-Fenced Deer Ranch is located in Otsego County in the north-central part of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan. It is found on the Western boundaries of the pristine Pigeon River Country State Forest, approximately 7 miles East of the town of Vanderbilt. 525 acres in size, and operated as a private Family Club since 1928, it is one of the oldest hunting preserves in Michigan. There are 4 miles of High Fence Enclosure, with 5 ground blinds and 4 tower blinds available. There is varying terrain, sloping to steeply sloping in the creek drainage basin in the west, level to gently sloping in the east, and a Stream (which is a tributary of the Sturgeon River) meanders through the west. The property contains cedar-wetlands (NW and SW), dense pine forests, open forests, hardwood ridges, steep slopes, a stream, small pond, 40-Acres of tillable land, several openings, meadows, access trails (about 7 miles of trails), a dozen food plots, and wildlife corridors. This ecological diversity creates wonderful wildlife habitat for the free roaming Whitetail Deer, Grouse, Turkey, Woodcock, Squirrels, Badgers, and American Bald Eagles that live here. Natural feeding is well managed here, with a dozen food plots planted with two types of grazing alfalfa, chicory, and clover; Chicory and clover planted along power line; Rye and wheat planted by shaded area blind. In the Autumn, Winter, and Early Spring there is supplemental feeding of high protein grain. A Storage Silo and 9 Feeders are employed for this activity. The Herd has an outstanding genetic background, and natural breeding on the ranch produces Big Frame/Big Body Typicals. There are approximately 225 Bucks and 75 Does here. All hunts are fully guided, and there are three classes of hunts -- Supreme Bucks (160 - 230 & up gross SCI) -- Medallion Bucks (Mature bucks with scores ranging from 150 - 159 gross SCI) -- and Management Bucks (119 - 149 gross SCI). Two cabins provide lodging for 10 Guests. The original cabins were built in the 1930s and have been extensively remodeled and enlarged while retaining their Up-North Hunting Cabin Ambiance. The 1,208 Square Foot Hunter's Lodge is of Frame Construction. Its Knotty Pine Interior and Antique

pot-bellied stove with cultured field stone surround provide warmth and atmosphere after a long day of hunting. It features a large Gathering Room, Full Galley Kitchen, 3-Bedrooms that sleep six comfortably, Office, a Full Bath, and a 3/4 Bath. The 719 Square Foot Main Lodge is of Full log construction, and has been remodeled without eliminating the era of construction. The Chinked Log Interior of this building is reminiscent of the hunting lodges of the past, and the Gathering Room features a fieldstone Fireplace. This cabin has a Full Galley Kitchen, 2-Bedrooms that sleep 4 comfortably, Full Bath, and screened porch. Maintenance/ Support Buildings include a 12x22 Cooler and Butcher building with winches, wash station, and Walk-In Cooler. A 30x40 Pole Barn, with two 12 Foot wide Lean-To Framed Overhangs, provides ample room for tractors and equipment storage. There are also an 18x30 open-fronted Storage Building and a 10x20 Storage Building located behind the Main Cabin. Avid shooters will enjoy sighting in their rifles from the 100 Yard Gun Range with enclosed building, and the 50-100 Yard Archery Range. There's also a 500-Yard Shooting Lane on property. An assortment of Non-Hunting outdoor activities are available for your enjoyment in the area. The Otsego Club, Sylvan Resort (TreeTops), Marsh Ridge, Michaywe, Wilderness Valley, and Beaver Creek Resort provide opportunities for golf or skiing. Otsego Lake State Park and Otsego Lake County Park, and the Pigeon River County State Forest are nearby for Camping, Backpacking, Hiking, Flyfishing, Mountain biking, and Skiing.
