Ranch Description
The sun, long gone from the horizon, has left a single slash of brilliant orange. A cock pheasant calls out as a flock of geese noisily splash into the river beside a group of feeding turkeys. You glance over at your son, manhood already intruding on the boyish features. You reflect that this is the first time all week your son is not welded to his I-phone. He stares out of the blind completely focused on the 50 grazing does. He can take one of the does, but with a flush of pride you know your son will hold out for a buck, but only 15 minutes of shooting light remains. You think back to the first hunt with your Dad, a day of frigid sleet and anticipation, rewarded finally by a small 2 x 2. He starts to slip his finger through the trigger guard aware that there are only a few minutes left to hunt. Then he stiffens. And you see it. A monster 6x6 has appeared in a tangle of cottonwoods. A tough shot through trees and brush. Your boy shifts the barrel ever so slowly, starts to slip his finger against the trigger begins to tremble. You reach out and touch his shoulder. He glances over and your eyes lock and you nod with a hint of a reassuring smile. He turns back to the trophy buck, steadies, squeezes the trigger This is the Silver Star Ranch, 271 acres of prime pasture, cottonwood groves and river bottom in the extremely desirable Jefferson River Valley.
