Remote 640 Acre Upper Michigan Recreational Parcel. This 640-Acre wooded recreational parcel is location in L'Anse Township, in east-central Baraga County in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. It is in the heart of the wilderness and has a branch of the Peshekee River going through it. The Peshekee River flows through the northern and western section of the property. This river is a 31.1-Mile-Long river. The Peshekee River is stunning, with nature scenery along its banks and the water flowing gracefully down the river which attracts people from near and far. In the foothills of the Huron Mountains, the copper-hued water of this wilderness river flows past towering pines and tangles with rock cuts, boulders, and gravel beds. The Peshekee is rated a Class I-Iii rafting and kayaking river by the American Whitewater Association. This river supports many fish species, and is a highly regarded Brook trout river. It is a tributary of Lake Michigamme, and its waters flow via the Michigamme River and the Menominee River to Lake Michigan. (The West Branch of the Huron River (A Type 1 Fishing River) and six public access fishing lakes are close by.) Mount Curwood, the second highest point (1967 Ft.) in Michigan is just two miles to the west. The Kings of Industry played in this area - Three generations of descendants of Cyrus McCormick used this area for vacation retreats, and the Gate Way into the 16,850 acre McCormick Wilderness (part of the National Wilderness Preservation System since 1987) is about 9+/- miles southeast of this parcel. This is also the entrance into 3 miles of the North County Trail which, when completed, will be a 4,000 mile National Scenic Trail from New York to North Dakota. This trail will cross through seven northern States. This unspoiled forest area is studded with lakes, and is near the head waters of the Dead River, Huron River, Peshekee River, and the Yellow Dog River. The diverse ecological landscape serves as habitat for a variety of mammals and birds and is also known for Michigan Wildflowers. Beaver, Black bear, Fox, Mink, Moose, Otter, Squirrels, Snowshoe hare, Whitetail deer and Wolves are at home here - and Bald eagle, Loon, and Pileated Woodpecker sightings are common. Hunting for Trophy Black bear and Whitetail deer and Grouse is available on the property, as well as for upland game species. You can also take advantage of the walk in access from the northern border of this property to thousands of acres of Corporate CFA land for hunting, trapping and fishing. There is good Seasonal Access via the Peshekee Grade/Huron Bay Grade Road, which touches the north-eastern corner of the property. A select cut of marketable timber was done about 19 years ago. Trees common in the area include: American basswood, Balsam fir, Bigtooth aspen, Black ash, Black cherry, Black spruce, Eastern hemlock, Northern white-cedar, Quaking aspen, Red maple, Sugar maple, Tamarack,White spruce, and Yellow birch.
