Log Cabin, 33 +/- Acres : Covington : Baraga County : Michigan

Ranch Description

Michigan LOG Cabin Property For Sale. This 33+ Acre property is located in Covington Township, which is in south-western Baraga County, in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The nearby Villages of Covington, Watton and Nestoria, hold numerous cultural and recreational events throughout the year, and is a Year-Round Outdoor Recreational Haven. The area was first settled by French-Canadian loggers around 1885. Finnish settlers started arriving in 1898, and farming became more prevalent, but logging continued to be an important occupation. Crop and dairy farming, and logging are still done in the area today. A few miles from the property is the Covington Multi-Purpose Building - the large covered pavilion hosts many outdoor activities in the summer months. One of these popular events is an annual July-Daylong Finnish Music Festival which features musicians playing Finnish inspired music, meals, and tours. In the winter the pavilion is a skating/hockey rink. There's also a ski-hill with a tow-rope there, for skiing, sledding, and snowboarding. Bordered on three sides by State and Corporate CFA Land, there is access to thousands of acres of land for walk-in fishing, trapping, and hunting in Season. The area is known for super hunting, with Black bear, Bobcat, Coyote, Raccoon, Red fox, Red squirrel, Ruffed grouse, Varying hare, and Whitetail deer sighted regularly. Just north of the property, down Old-M28, is access to the main North-South Multi-Use State Trail (No. 8) for motorized and non-motorized fun year-round - Biking, Hiking, Horseback riding, off-Roading, Cross-Country Skiing, and Snowmobiling. Four+ miles to the south-west is 622-Acre, 7-Foot Deep, Vermilac Lake. Anglers catch Northern pike, Black crappie, Bluegill, Brown bullhead, Golden shiner, Largemouth bass, Pumpkin seeds, Sunfish and Yellow perch. The Michigan DNR has planted Walleye in this lake for many years, and Master Angler Entries have been pulled from these waters. Parent Lake, two miles to the west, is a Perch and Walleye lake. The Cabin First Floor features an Open Concept Living, Dining, and Kitchen area. A Soapstone Cast Iron freestanding Wood Stove (with a flat top for cooking), high pitched ceiling, log walls, and teak flooring are features of this room. The Hunter ceiling fan needs to be wired. A Walk-Through Bedroom leads to the 3/4 Bath. On the Second Level is a Loft Bedroom with a view of the Main Living Area below. A Water Tank is attached to a trailer. Water is available at a State Park about a half hour drive North of the property. Water from the tank is piped to the Generator Building, where a pump is located - and from there pumped into the Cabin. (The tank provides bath and toilet water for about a week for two people.) The 8x10 Generator Building has 5-Foot Overhangs on each side, great for sheltering snowmobiles, lawn mowers, etc. Power is supplied by a 18,000 Watt Generator housed in this building, and by Solar Panels. Sewage is handled with two 1,100 Gallon Waste Tanks. Old M-28 which provides access to the cabin has seasonal access. But it is a short distance from the Highway, making it possible to Snowmobile, Snowshoe, or Cross-Country Ski in. There is a second driveway located on Us-41 that leads into a clearing that could be use as a Campsite, or a location for other structures, pole barn, etc. A small creek, a tributary of the Pelkie Creek touches the eastern edge of the property.
