The k-ranch is an epic western ranch established in the 1870's. a colorful history has traveled over time with this magnificent ranch. it is located in northwestern colorado and northeastern utah. locals often refer to the k-ranch as the heart of blue mountain. a 700 cow ranch spread out over 61,000 acres is a true spread in the classic western term. the range varies from low country winter range , with elevations of 5400 feet to the high mountain summer and fall range of up to 8500 ft. this scenic ranch has some of the most beautiful country you can lay your eyes upon. there are multicolored canyons , a view to the west of the white cliffs of blue mountain, where several hang gliding national championships have been held ,and mountain country with colorado's quaking aspens. the k- ranch is every cattleman's dream for the ease it offers in moving the cattle from range to range and pasture to pasture. it is a well watered ranch that requires no water hauling. the cows don't have to walk their weight off to reach their shipping weight. there are certified scales on the mountain, with corrals and loading facilities to ship calves. mother cows can be moved to winter range without shipping costs. a low labor intensive ranch, relative to it's capacity, makes this a ranchers dream to manage and own. there are three historic cow camps on the k-ranch and one is still operational for the cowboys to operate from. the headquarters features a ranch house, a bunk house, corrals ,a barn, and a workshop. their is also a 70-80 acre hay field with wheel line irrigation. a calving facility is located adjacent to the hay field, as well as corrals and a hay yard for storage. the ranch headquarters was once a stage coach stop, which adds to the historical significance of this great ranch. unit 10 in colorado is know for it's giant bulls and bucks. in the last several years bulls have been harvested that gross scored over 350 and the website features a giant bull from the last couple of years that scored over 380. mule deer are regularly taken that score over 200. the current owner built a three bedroom log home, featuring a see thru fireplace, on the mountain property. it has a deck across the entire front of the home to take in the views of moosehead mountain. arapahoe rock is a short walking distance from the lodge. it has flint scattered across the top from native americans of long ago. traveling across the k-ranch gives you a trip back in time to the old west. it truly is a one of a kind of ranch that is a ranchers and hunters paradise. the size and scope of this historic ranch gives a pride of ownership that is difficult to replicate. your ownership of this great ranch will keep alive it's memories and tradition.
